Anti-wrinkle injections:
As we age, the action of continuously moving facial muscles coupled with reduced elasticity in the overlying skin results in lines and wrinkles. Unfortunately these lines and wrinkles can make you appear older, angrier or more tired than you really are.
Botulinum toxin type A is a naturally occurring protein extracted from bacteria.
Marketed under the brand names ‘Botox’ ‘Vistabel’ and ‘Dysport’ minute quantities carefully injected into muscles produces a temporary block to the nerve signals which stimulate muscle movement.
As a result the muscles relax and the skin over the muscles smoothes out reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
The maximum effect is reached after 1-2 weeks with normal movement gradually returning over 3-6 months.
Who is this treatment suitable for?
This procedure can have remarkable results in improving the kind of wrinkles which result from hyperactive facial muscles.
It is most commonly used to treat:
- frown lines between the eyebrows
- horizontal forehead lines
-
‘crows feet’ around the eyes.
Won’t my face look ‘frozen’ if the muscles don’t move?
Some people want to eliminate all movement in the muscles and some prefer a more natural look where the movement is softened but facial expression is not significantly affected.
At your initial consultation your clinician here at RDP Cosmetic will establish what effect you wish to achieve and prescribe an appropriate dose of injection.

I’ve heard Botox is a poison, is it safe?
Botulinum toxin has been used in the medical treatment of muscle spasm for over 20 years and within the medical cosmetic industry since the 1990’s.
The amounts used are so tiny they present no risk from poisoning and to date there have been no known hypersensitivity reactions. Correctly injected by properly trained clinicians this material is safe.
The very small risk of temporary side effects such as bruising will be fully discussed at your consultation.
