What is a chemical peel?
The controlled application of specific chemical agents to the surface of the skin which removes superficial layers and stimulates the skins natural renewal process.
What will it do for my skin?
A chemical peel will reduce / reverse the signs of skin aging caused by UV light, smoking, pollution, harsh weather etc.
Results depend on the state of the skin before treatment and the type of peel used but generally you can expect to see:
- A reduction in fine lines
- Smoother, tighter skin
- A reduction in pore size
- Less need for foundation make-up
The nature of the chemicals used, the concentration and the length of time it is in contact with the skin all affect the depth of the peel.
At RDP Cosmetic we recommend only light—medium peels as these are safe and require little or no ‘down time’ for the client.
Light peels: Glycolic Acid Peels (AHA)
These so called “lunch hour” peels are the mildest of the chemical peels. They include glycolic, lactic, and fruit acid peels (AHA).
These very light peels are generally recommended for younger clients where there is minimal skin damage. They are also useful as maintenance treatments when the desired effect has been achieved with one of the deeper peels and the client simply wishes to freshen the complexion.
Medium peels: Trichloroacetic acids (TCA)
TCA gives a deeper peel than the glycolics and is used to treat skin with moderate sun damage, surface wrinkles, and/or uneven tone or pigment abnormalities. The treatment is performed as a series of 4 applications at weekly intervals, this gives the effect of a deeper peel without the inconvenience and time out usually associated with more aggressive peeling techniques.
Innovation Concept Peel
This is a special medium depth peel suitable for all skin types and safe to use on skin of colour or that prone to hyperpigmentation. It provides a slow penetration of the peel chemicals which is very safe. It is a one off treatment but the chenical sare applied in the form of a gel mask which stays on for several hours.

FAQs
How long does it take?
The process generally takes between 15 and 30 minutes each visit.
Is the procedure painful?
Most people feel only a brief burning or stinging sensation. Obviously everybody experiences sensation differently and if your skin is very sensitive a peel may not be comfortable for you, however your clinician can tailor the concentration and duration of the peel to your individual comfort level.
Do I need to take time off work to have a peel?
It is not necessary to take time off work although your skin may appear a bit red immediately after the peel and patients are advised not to use any make-up for 24 hours.
Will my skin go brown and peel like I’ve seen on TV makeover shows?
No, those are usually deep phenol peels which cause the skin to necrose (die) and peel at a much deeper level. We only recommend light to medium peels which result in some mild flaking of the skin, similar to that following sunburn, which can usually be covered quite easily with make-up. By having a series of medium depth peels excellent results can be achieved without the aggressive peeling which necessitates several weeks off normal activities.
